So...you made some slime at one of the events we were at and now you have it home.......
SLIME CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Most importantly - wash your hands before and after playing with slime. Dirty, sweaty hands will always stick to slime a lot more. And finally, don't forget that slime is made from glue and water. The more it is played with, the more it will dry up, need care, and eventually will have to be thrown out after hours of fun are had (just like silly putty, play-doh, etc). If it grows something funky like mold, throw it out. You can make it last a long time with proper care.
How do I fix slime that got hard?
Luckily there are a few remedies that can help you if this has happened. Adding lotion to opaque, butter, and clay slimes will help soften them up. We recommend a fragrance free lotion, as it will not interact with any scents added to your slime and is gentle on all skin types. Also adding a few teaspoons of water and massing it in will loosen up the over-bonded polymers and make it stretchier.
How do I fix slime that is too sticky?
If your slime is sticky it needs activator. You can make activator by adding ½ tsp of borax to ½ cup of warm water. Add a few drops and work it in until the stickiness disappears. Adding too much activator will make your slime hard. You can also use baking soda as an activator. Add a few pinches and work in until the stickiness disappears. Remember, you can always add a little more, but you can't take it away once you put it in! That being said, slime is made from glue. The way you hold and play with it can make a difference. You may be holding the slime for too long in your hand. The heat from your hands will make the slime stickier. It is best to move quickly or play with slime on a table. Try using your fingertips more, and your palms less.
Why is the slime is sticking to the inside of the container?
Sometimes for certain slime, and small containers as well, the texture of the slime has a consistently where it may want to stick to the bottom of the container, because the bond to the plastic is stronger than the bond of the polymers in the glue (this is often the case with some glossier or thinner slimes). This is normal - not all slimes will cleanly come out of the container. You can add some activator to make it stick less.
My slime doesn't stretch very good?
Different slimes have different consistencies and textures. Some slimes will tear easily if you pull them apart at a moderate speed, but can stretch several feet wide if pulled slowly. You have to experiment to see what the properties are of your individual slime. You can add a little water (for clear slimes)or lotion(for opaque slimes) to your slime to increase stretchiness. We recommend a fragrance free lotion, as it will not interact with any scents added to your slime and is gentle on all skin types.
The foam/fishbowl/slushee beads fall out when I pull the slime. What do I do?
For any foreign objects put into the slime, other than something fine like powder or glitter, there is a very normal chance that there may be some loss of beads when pulling the slime apart. This is just basic physics... the thinner you pull the slime, gravity or lack of slime may "let go" of the bead and it will fall out. This will happen more if your slime is too hard and not sticky enough. Our slime is formulated to reduce the frequency of this happening, and most people can squish and play with it without many beads falling out. Keep in mind that if you tear your slime into two pieces, foam beads at the edges of the tear will have nothing to stick to and will obviously fall out. You can add water to make your slime more sticky, and a few drops of either clear school or PVA glue will help too. Always add a little at a time until you achieve your results.
